Starship Troopers Predicted the Future

Remember the 1997 film Starship Troopers? It was a military satire film written by Edward Neumeier (the guy who wrote Robocop) and directed by Paul Verhoeven (the guy who made Showgirls)  and is the biggest F-U to the novel it was supposed to be based on (I’m pretty sure Robert A. Heinlein was turning in his grave when this movie came out).

While the the satire on militarism and anti-war messages was heavily overshadowed by the fact that Starship Troopers was a really bad action movie, Starship Troopers turned out to have some things going for it because it predicted the future. From 9/11 to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, several scenes eerily mirror events that happened several years later.

Check out this article by Cracked’s Andrew Gordon for more info about how Starship Troopers predicted the future.
